Restaurant With ‘No Weapons’ Sign Robbed at Gunpoint

Despite a “No Weapons, No Concealed Firearms” sign hanging in the window, a North Carolina barbecue restaurant was robbed at gunpoint earlier this week. According to WTVD / ABC 11, three armed men entered The Pit in Durham through the back door and “forced several staff members to lie on the floor.” The Herald-Sun reports that the robbers were “demanding access to the safe” and that[…]...

Your First Time Carrying A Gun

You’ve never quite gotten around to doing it. There were always reasons, good ones. But you kept thinking about it, and perhaps someone urged you to at least get a CCW (concealed carry weapons) license so that you would have it “just in case.” You’ve had the safety training, and some range practice. You have the license.[…]...

No Light? No Problem!

It seems that most shooters practice on sunny afternoons outdoors or on indoor ranges that are not only well-lit but that have been designed so that the placement of the lights helps to maximize the desired sight picture. Unfortunately, many defensive shooting incidents take place at night, often in places that are very dimly lit. According to[…]

Setting up a Carry Gun

Firearm Setup – The setup of the gun is critical to how it performs.  If your gun met the criteria listed earlier (see my post on the REAP test for a carry gun), there should be little additional setup needed and there might actually be a danger in changing certain things in a stock firearm.  I strongly[…]...

Using The R.E.A.P. Test To Pick A Good Carry Gun

Key Considerations in Selecting a Firearm – When selecting a gun for defensive purposes, I use what I call the R.E.A.P. test.  This acronym stands for: reliability, ergonomics, accuracy and power.  For me, reliability is number one. In a gunfight, as well competitions, reliability is very, very important.  One other note before I break down R.E.A.P. into[…]...

Target Analysis Help

In just about any given class, there is almost always, someone who has never shot before.  I love this kind of student because they have no bad habits to break.  They are usually very eager and sometimes a bit nervous to get started with their firearms training journey.  That journey is vital to survival in a self-defense[…]...
